How To Change Your Instagram + Twitter Name

This post is part of a series called "How to (super simply) rebrand your entire online life. You can find all the rest of the posts in this super simple rebrand series at the bottom of this post!

Y'all I feel like we've done most of the difficult rebranding up to this point. I thought it was time for some super simple rebranding incase like me your mind turns to mush with too much coding. Let's talk about changing your instagram and twitter names and keeping all your followers of course!
I want to take a quick second and touch again on how important brand consistency is out here on the internet. Whether you have a personal blog or a business, you want people to be able to find you across all platforms- super simply. Plus it makes for really cute and easy business cards like this business card from Jess.

Ok so cute business cards aren't the only reason to keep all your platforms the same. Take my friend Megan, for example. She recently rebranded for business purposes. Her new url is MEGANEPHOTOS.com But on social media she had a few different user names and although they matched her real name, none of them matched her new URL which is now her business.
Being the kind of opinionated even though I mean well good friend I am, I found out that her new URL was available on all the social media platforms. She jumped on it and changed her names to match her Url. Now no matter where you are if you type in MEGANEPHOTOS you can find her.

It seriously couldnt be easier, so lets get started!

Step 1. On your instagram page, on your phone, click "Edit Your Profile"

Step 2. On line two, change your username
Step 3. Save
Congrats, you just changed your Instagram name! Now let's try for twitter.

Step 1. Under the tool bar click Edit Profile
Step 2. Change your username
Step 3. Save
Congrats, you just changed your twitter name.

  1. I just tried it out, and it works perfectly "surrounded_by_beautymn" was a finger full to type! So now my brand/store is "SBBeautyMN" ... however, I also noticed that any old tags I had that were @ my old username are now broken - they don't reroute! Any tips on this?

    1. That's a GREAT. Rebrand! So much more simple. No I don't think there is a way to get the twitter ones to reroute. Is it the same on Instagram? I think it changes but if not, this is a one time thing and worth it for the ease moving forward.
