But God: Our transition to ministry with a non-profit

This week my husband resigned from his job and we are moving to Colorado.

Wow. That feels really weird and scary to "say" out loud. But also very freeing.

Ok, let me back up for a second.

Ladies (and gentleman?) of the internet, I'd love to introduce you to my husband, Jesse. He has been a loooong time supporter of my online life for years. But always behind the scenes. Basically, he's an #instagramhusband.

You see, my husband has a very public job that makes me very private about it online.  If you're a friend or you've been a long time reader, you know that a lot of our family's identity has been wrapped up in his job. He's been doing it for 8 years and I truly couldn't be prouder. He loves his job and he is really stinking good at it. In fact, he was offered a promotion this month to teach new people to do his job.

BUT GOD the two most terrifying and exciting words in the bible

But God has other plans for our family. You see, a few months ago I attended The Influence Conference as just an attendee for the first time after working on their team for the last few years.  I wasn't going to go, but God opened all the right doors. All through the weekend they pushed us to remember that we've already been commissioned. I prayed all weekend and talked about it with my husband: now that I wasn't working for Influence and had made it through the crazy pregnancy/early baby part- WHAT did God want me to be a part of?

Literally the day after I got home, we went to this casual night our church was hosting and we heard about a ministry called Save The Storks. Save The Storks is an apolitical non-profit that serves mothers and saves babies. They partner with pregnancy resource centers all over the nation providing powerful tools and training so they can more effectively reach and serve expectant mothers and empower those women to choose life for their baby. This non-profit wants to love on women and serve them. No picketing or hate speech or anything. Just love, compassion, and action.

I was crying big tears listening to Jeff Gilbert speak on their organization and as I turned to look at my husband to tell him I thought this is what God wanted me to be a part of, I saw the tears rolling down his cheek, too. After the presentation we talked to the speaker and said aside from giving, which we were going to do, how could we be involved in the future of this organization. And literally he said "I've been wanting to start a blog or social media campaign. Would either of you know anything about the blog world or know any bloggers?" Ummmmm why yes I do and I just got back from a weekend with all of them. We immediately started volunteering with the organization.

I know its probably really weird to hear about a nonprofit and immediately start making videos for them and piecing together campaigns, but God made it crazy easy for us. We became fast friends with Jeff Gilbert and even hung out with his family when we went to Disney this year. Honestly, the more and more we heard about Storks the more and more we could feel the crazy tugging on our hearts.

Eventually, the organization offered for us to come out and meet the team members and see their headquarters. It was right after Thanksgiving and we have three kids and live 3000 miles away from family but God worked things out in a crazy way and we hoped on a plane with our baby and flew to Colorado to meet everyone. Aaaaaaand we maybe stayed in a castle while we were there.

Ok, real talk? I think everyone was thinking I would be the one to work at Storks Headquarters. I mean, on paper it seems totally right. Plus, Jesse has an awesome job that he totally loves and is super good at.

But God has been slowly shifting things in our hearts and our minds.
But God worked things out at the perfect time, opening and shutting doors that we were so sure of.
But God allowed our normally chill baby to scream the entire trip so we would realize I really couldn't go back to full-time work right now.
But God took Jesse to the top of a figural and literal mountain and showed him that there was a new calling for our family.

Last week, Jesse was offered and accepted a position with Save The Storks. This week he turned down his current promotion and let everyone know he will be leaving. His last day of work is mid-January and we will be moving to Colorado at the end of January.

We are excited and nervous and feel crazy and are one hundred percent trusting God with this. I mean, when Jesus calls you to serve Him, you drop what you’re doing and go. "And immediately he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants and followed him.” Mark 1:20

We are letting go of security, letting go of our community, letting go of our rad health insurance, letting go of absolutely everything we have and taking a huge step of faith. We would love if you'd pray for us in this. If you'd like to further partner with us as we begin a new chapter in our lives as God has called us to intercede on behalf of the unborn, feel free to CLICK HERE or share our fundraising page. We’re raising money to assist with the transition to ministry with a non-profit. If you would consider blessing us with a one time donation, we would be incredibly grateful!

Awkward, but grateful.

We are so excited about all that is happening and can't wait to share this story as it unfolds! You can follow us on the below links. We are @heyashleynoelle and @thejessewhitten everywhere.
